Activity: Rainbow Turntable

Create freestanding rainbows to reinforce the mnemonic aid "Roy G. Biv" for the color sequence.

Rainbow_turntable-_spinning.jpg (18575 bytes) Put a paper plate on a phonographic record player.

Rainbow_turntable.jpg (21532 bytes) As the plate spins, hold a marker of the appropriate color on the plate.  The outer edge is red, the inner concentric ring is violet.  

Rainbow_turntable_done.jpg (26471 bytes) The completed plate has rainbow colors in their proper order as reinforced by the mnemonic aid "Roy G. Biv," which stands for red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet.

Rainbow_turntable-_standing.jpg (21370 bytes) Fold the rainbow in half so it is free standing.
