AstroCampers observed or celebrated astronomy highlights that were in the news concurrent with AstroCamp 2009:

  • 40th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing;

  • Rare, new impact site visible on Jupiter;

  • 2009 International Year of Astronomy;

  • Space Shuttle Endeavour  docked to International Space Station, with a total of 13 crew members;

  • Total solar eclipse over China.

  • Dan Joyce, master telescope maker and observer, from Chicago, IL
