Paper Plate Education
"Serving the Universe on a Paper
Plate"
Activity: Rainbow Turntable
Create freestanding rainbows to reinforce the mnemonic aid
"Roy G. Biv" for the color sequence.
Put a paper plate on a phonographic record player.
As the plate spins, hold a marker of the appropriate color on the plate.
The outer edge is red, the inner concentric ring is violet.
The completed plate has rainbow colors in their proper order as reinforced by
the mnemonic aid "Roy G. Biv," which stands for red, orange, yellow,
green, blue, indigo, violet.
Fold the rainbow in half so it is free standing.

As an alternative that does not use the record player, simply color the rainbow
onto half of a folded paper plate.
